Every year The Bachmann-Strauss Dystonia & Parkinson Foundation hosts The Dystonia & Parkinson's Disease Patient Symposium in New York City. This one-of-a-kind full day event, starting at 8:30am through 3:00pm, brings together patients and caregivers with top neurologists, specialists and pharmaceuticals in the field of dystonia & Parkinson's disease. One portion of the program includes of panel discussion with top neurologists, speaking about the latest research, treatments and new discoveries. This year we are introducing a new patient panel, to gain a first-hand perspective on the realities of living with tthese two disorders. In addition, there is a question and answer portion between the audience and speakers. The second portion offers interactive classes of Alexander Technique, Core Strengthening Through the Brain, Balance & Voice Yoga (has replaced "Healing Touch" Energy Medicine) and Moving Forward with Music. This combination of panel discussions and interactive classes offers an all encompassing experience to better educate and empower the individual. As a service to the community The Bachmann-Strauss Dystonia & Parkinson's Patient Symposium is FREE to the public, including complimentary breakfast and lunch, but registration is required.

The 2012 Patient Symposium has broken attendance records with over 200 people at this amazing event. The Patient Symposium included a panel discussion with top neurologists, speaking about the latest research, treatments and new discoveries as well as a question and answer portion with the audience which was moderated by Emmy Award Winning Medical Reporter, Dr. Max Gomez. It also included interactive classes of Chair Yoga, Emotional Coping Strategies, Alexander Technique and Music, Movement & Dance.

2011 Patient Symposium

The 2011 Patient Symposium was the first year we incorporated an interactive element to this event. This model of combining presentations/discussions with top neurologists and interactive classes which introduces different types of therapies to patients and their caregivers was a tremendous success. The 2011 interactive classes featured Chair Yoga, Nutrition, Meditation/T'ai Chi Chih, and Massage Therapy.
