Tirage Art Gallery Partners with The Bachmann-Strauss Foundation in Honor of a Young Girl named Kristin.

ABOUT THIS SPECIAL PARTNERSHIP

Several years ago, Tirage Fine Art Gallery in Pasadena, California received a letter from Lauren Von Der Ahe, the teen-age daughter of one of their clients, describing her class project to raise funds to battle dystonia in honor of her sister, Kristin.  The poignant account of Kristin's daily life with dystonia struck a nerve with gallery owners, Kevin Casey and Karen Hackett.  They then dedicated a portion of the proceeds from the Gallery's "Holiday Salon" Exhibition to The Bachmann-Strauss Dystonia & Parkinson Foundation, resulting in a continued collaboration between Tirage Fine Art and The Bachmann-Strauss Foundation.  Now through March 30, 2012,  Tirage Fine Art Gallery will donate 10% (ten percent) of the gallery retail price to The Bachmann-Strauss Foundation when The Bachmann-Strauss Foundation is mentioned at the time of purchase, either in person, by telephone, or through the extensive gallery website of more than 2000 artworks, www.tirageart.com

A TRUE INSPIRATION...KRISTIN VON DER AHE

Kristen_Von_Der_Ahe.jpeg

Kristin is a wonderful, curious, loving young adult. She is blind, nonverbal, and doesn’t walk.  She loves the latest in music, likes to listen to books and the cooking channel.  Kristin has a sophisticated grasp of dry humor and an optimistic outlook on life…most of the time.

What makes Kristin sad occasionally is the pain she suffers from dystonia. Kristin has secondary dystonia due to brain injury from a brain tumor removal and an allergic reaction to medication.  One minute she is relaxed and the next minute her body involuntarily moves into position or gets stuck in what we, her family, refer to as the “stiffies”. It is also the cause of her inability to speak as she has minimal control of most of her muscles.  She has definite opinions, however, as she taps on a caregivers shoulders to choose an answer.  One answer she always chooses is that her “stiffies” or dystonia is her worst disability…she consistently picks speech and a relaxed body over sight.

When Kristin is especially excited about saying yes to a choice she will give a thumbs up…and when we mentioned a campaign to raise money for dystonia, Kristin gave two thumbs up to the sky!
